Dog owners understand the importance of physical exercise, but many are less aware of how essential mental enrichment is for their dog(s). Brain Games is designed with two main goals:
To help owners recognize how mental stimulation supports their dog’s overall well-being
To offer practical, easy-to-use ideas for meeting those mental and emotional needs.
This fun, low-pressure, and informative class introduces activities that help keep dogs’ minds engaged and their bodies well regulated. It’s especially valuable during the colder winter months, when outdoor exercise may be limited and dogs can benefit greatly from indoor enrichment.
Please note: This is a humans-only class.
Saturday Dec 13th 10 to 11am
My road to becoming a professional trainer began when I adopted my first dog, Alice, in 2006. Like many other people who have welcomed a dog into their life and their home, I was forever changed! Soon after adopting her I became interested in fostering rescue dogs. I took in my first foster in 2007, and over the next 15 years my husband and I found forever homes for over 60 dogs. Throughout that time I started reading training books and learning how to teach basic obedience skills. Occupational therapy was my “real” career during that time, which involved working with kids with special needs within educational settings. I noticed considerable overlap in the underlying approaches and techniques for working with both species.
In 2015 I earned my Certified Dog Trainer title through CATCH Canine Academy. Soon after, I was accepted for a 3-month internship at the Animal Humane Society (AHS). Upon completion, I was hired to work part time at AHS as an animal behaviorist. I taught group classes, in-home training sessions, and outreach in St Paul, MN. For the next few years I juggled both jobs, working full time as a therapist during the day and part time evenings as a trainer. In 2023, I decided to open my own business and Paw & Order - Twin Cites was born! Family dogs are my wheelhouse, and with my previous experience as an OT, I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and ability levels!
