Meet Skeeter!
Skeeter looks like a pointer wearing a yellow lab disguise. He is a “fun size”, weighing in at only 48lbs. Skeeter has long toes that’ll make you laugh and a goofy personality to go along with them. His foster mom says he’s so handsome and he has totally let it go to his head. Skeety doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. He’s never demonstrated resource guarding behaviors or attempted to assert dominance with any dogs. He is truly the epitome of “just happy to be here”! Skeeter is not a huge ball guy, but he’ll never pass up a rope toy or bone! He does a great job sleeping in his crate and doesn’t make a peep, as long as it’s within sight of his people. But he definitely prefers a couch cuddle or morning snuggles in bed. He loves cozying up on the couch with his foster parents after a long day of play. He doesn’t like to be lonely (who does?) so we’re still working on crate training when his humans leave the house, for this reason he should go to a home with no shared walls. His leash manners are coming along nicely and he loves going for walks. He’s mastered “sit” and he’s working on incorporating other basic commands. This boy is very treat motivated. With some time and consistency (and mini pepperonis) he will be able to continue strengthening his new skills. Skeeter hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home but we’re still working on going potty on leash. Some say it’s his little quirk, we just think he likes privacy! His foster home has a fenced in yard and that’s where he prefers to do his business “off-leash” so he will do best with a fenced in yard of his own. Plus, this boy could spend hours outside exploring if you let him. He would probably put “active outdoors enthusiast” on his dating profile if foster mom let him have one. Skeeter feels most confident with a doggy friend by his side. He absolutely loves playing with other dogs and that’s when his silly personality really shines. Skeeter needs another dog to help him continue to gain confidence.
Because of Skeeter’s turbulent past he can be an anxious boy at times. He currently takes CBD to combat those feelings, but as he begins to feel more safe and settled in life, he shows us improvement in his confidence and comfort. With some time, love and stability it’s possible he may not need those supports in the future. He just needs to find his people who will show him the best in humans Think Skeeter is the one?
