Meet our buddy Merv!

Merv is quite the sidekick and is a total hoot.  He is social, happy, goofy, curious, affectionate and well, not the brightest bulb on the tree!!  Merv is such a combo of a french bulldog butt and personality, long body of a basset, and the cutest bully face.  He just makes us laugh. Merv is a powerful low rider who is a total goon.  He is very loyal and loves to be wherever you are! Merv didn’t get much love at all before he came to Spots, so now he can’t get enough! He is a big time cuddler and will even be content just laying at your feet. Merv’s two favorite things are snuggles and naps!! He’s in doggy heaven if you combine those things and let him curl up on your lap or next to you.

Although his first choice is to be touching you if at all possible, Merv understands we can’t always be doing that, so he also likes to spend time resting on his doggy bed, especially if it’s near a window so he can feel the sunshine!! He will also wander in and out of his crate to relax throughout the day as well. His favorite toys are ropes to play tug of war and anything that squeaks!!

Merv is playful and likes to run fast when he gets the chance.  Merv MUST have a FENCED YARD.  He is learning to walk on leash politely and must have a harness due to a little trachea damage from his previous life.  Merry is fine with other dogs but he plays like a bull which can be too much for some dogs.

This also makes his bark a little raspy, but he still definitely feels like the protector of the house – he’ll let you know if anyone is close by! Because he wants to protect his family, Merv can get uneasy with new people coming into his territory. His fosters have seen great progress with new people – as long as visitors knock on the door and allow Merv to answer it with his fosters, he knows they’re a welcome & expected guest! Extra bonus if they bring him a treat to say hello. Once he understands that welcome visitors are friends, he becomes the biggest ham and soaks up all the love and attention he can get from his new friends!Merv is completely house trained and does a great job letting his fosters know when he needs to use the bathroom. He’s slowly getting used to the cold and the snow, but really enjoys being warmed up with a towel when he comes back in! He has been working on his obedience and does a great job with ‘stay’ and ‘come’, but he needs a bit more practice with ‘sit’ – it’s a little hard for his long body!  If you’re looking for a best friend who will make you laugh Merv is your guy!
