Sophie

Australian Shepherd & Collie Mix, Collie & Labrador Retriever Mix

female · 3.5 Years · medium

Meet Sophie!

This barely-3-months-old feisty fluffball is a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd/Lab mix — which means she is incredibly smart and high-energy, and will need an experienced herding dog owner or someone dedicated to training and learning with her. Sophie will do best in a kid-free home, since she needs someone focused on getting her started on the right foot with training.

While she is a smarty pants and learns quickly, she also is still learning how to be independent. She needs frequent reminders that she is able to nap without snuggling you, and that it is okay to be alone. When she is tired, Sophie will whine until she feels secure enough to rest her eyes for a bit. Currently, Sophie is kenneling at night and during the workday, and is doing fantastic! While she isn’t a fan of entering the kennel, she goes in with slight assistance and quiets down almost instantly. She has always had a dry kennel!

Sophie LOVES to be outside, and will bark or walk to the door when she wants (or needs!) to go out. Speaking of barking… she will be a fantastic guard dog! She is vocal as she learns about new things and experiences. The first time she experienced a squeaky toy she was scared and barked, but the next night she realized it was fun! By day 3… the squeaker was almost worn out.

While Sophie can be hesitant and needs a courageous sidekick to show her the way in the crazy world, she’s pretty brave and she figures things out quickly. She also REALLY enjoys exploring at her own pace. Sophie’s bravery and inner-explorer mean she would love a fenced yard or acreage – or both! Her favorite thing to do is be outside enjoying the sights, sounds, smells, and seasons. She loves to romp in the snow, doesn’t mind the mud & puddles, and enjoys soaking in the sun.

So, do you have what it takes to learn with this little floof?!
