Meet your new best friend, Bear!

This guy is such a special, one of a kind pup. Bear was found as a stray in Alabama. He’s 35ish lbs right now, but since we don’t know what breeds he’s made up of, there’s no fool-proof estimate of how big he’ll get. Bear has the softest double coat, and ears that could probably pick up quite a few channels. Seriously, he could be named Radar with those ears. If you’re looking for a pup packed with personality, Bear is your guy!

Things Bear can brag about: Bear picks up on things very quickly, he’s a fast learner and takes cues from the resident dogs. We’ve been working on threshold training, crating on command, leash manners, and other basic obedience skills. He’s food motivated and loves working with his humans, which makes him a perfect candidate to be a dog with a job or to excel in obedience!

Things Bear is still working on: Bear doesn’t love time alone in his crate when you’re gone. We’ve been introducing him to short intervals of crate time while we’re home and feeding all meals in his crate to help create a positive association. He crates perfectly through the night, without a peep, in his foster parents bedroom. Bear is 99% potty trained, and the other 1% usually occurs when it’s raining!  He doesn’t love to get that beautiful coat wet! We don’t blame him, but we’re definitely working on it.

Things Bear enjoys: Bear loooves dogs and people. He has fantastic manners around dogs and respects their boundaries. Bear would do great in a home with another dog or with many consistent opportunities to socialize. He can never have too many choices when it comes to toys. Bones, ropes, stuffies? Bear loves them all! He gets really excited for meal time and training treats. Bear could spend hours outside (as long as it’s not raining) and is very curious and observant. Bear loves finding a place to plop down and observe the world around him.

Things you’ll love about Bear: He has an amazing personality and he loves his people fiercely. Bear plays hard, but he also naps hard, and usually prefers a nap spot next to you or another dog. With his ears, Bear appears to be extremely expressive which is always cracking us up. He’s the king of head tilts and says so much without saying anything at all.  Bear  finds a way to wiggle into the hearts of everyone he meets.
