Hi there, I’m Payton! The full of life, pointer mix you’ve been looking for!
I’m super petite, weighing in at only 40lbs. My Foster mom says that means I’m the perfect size to curl up on laps for a good cuddle. It’s estimated that I might be around 2 years old, but I’m still growing out of my clumsy puppy body and have some playful puppy energy.
In my foster home I have two furry foster siblings who keep me entertained. In fact, I’d really like it if I could live with another dog! I take no time at all to warm up to dogs and I haven’t met a dog I didn’t love. One of my foster siblings is a pointer and they say I have a lot of the same quirky mannerisms that pointers are known to have. I also have shown signs of prey drive and always try to catch the squirrels and birds on our walks.
My foster home has a fenced in yard which is great because I need quite a bit of exercise. The backyard is where I let all my zoomies out, but if you don’t have a fenced backyard I would also love walks, runs, hikes, or fetch! I would be the perfect running partner!
I like to spend my evenings playing with toys, going for walks, quick training sessions in the yard, and finish with some cuddles on the couch. I’m super sweet, I love to follow my humans around, and prefer to have all the toys out at once. We’ve been working on training, mostly basic commands and leash manners. I still have some practicing ahead of me, but that’s fine by me because I get lots of treats when I’m training!
We’re also practicing sleeping in the crate at night and during meal times. The crate isn’t my most favorite thing in the world, and sometimes I cry when I’m in there before settling down. Even though I’m mostly potty trained I still sleep in the crate because I can be a mischievous young adult at times, and foster mom says crate training is a good skill for everyone to have. (They totally let me sneak in their bed every morning though). Speaking of potty training, I do really well but sometimes my foster parents have to remind me to focus when I’m outside and remove distractions so I remember to actually go potty.
My foster family thinks I’m really special, and I think you would agree. If you’re interested in meeting me, have your people call my people! (Actually foster mom says you should fill out an application!)
