Meet Sasha!

Sasha is a beautiful brindle mix with expressive ears, a sharp mind, and is the most loving girl. She’s a perfect medium size dog (around 30lbs) and at almost 1 year old, likely won’t get too much bigger. We don’t know her mix, but she behaves like a working dog, but does not have a working dog energy level.  I would describe her energy level as moderate, and then she settles down quickly. Sheis very mellow in the house. If you want a dog who is a pal, she is your girl.  She loves walks, and pretty much ignores distractions.  If you stop while out on a walk, she sits, or just quietly stands.  She loves, rawhide, rope toys, balls and un-stuffies. She loves running errands, and going anywhere in the car.  Her house manners are very good. She sits on command, responds to back, leave it and wait. Her recall is phenomenal. Her down is good, but sometimes devolves to her rolling onto her back and wiggling around. She loves to please, she takes redirection and/or proactive direction very well. She will be a superstar in any obedience class.  She has good boundaries with the resident cats.  She also does well with the resident dogs, but she would be perfectly fine as an only dog. She needs someone who understands the working dog mentality.  Meaning firm, clear, benevolent direction to help her  understand what’s expected of her. She needs know what to do, when to do it, and most important, you are in charge and there is nothing for her to do other than take direction from you. She thrives with leadership, direction, and guidance from her human. She will fall into whatever routine you establish for her. She would probably be best with a more active person because she likes going places and doing things. She would be a great running/hiking/camping partner, or just your road trip buddy. Sasha will be a superstar in any obedience class. She is crate and housetrained.

One of the most amazing things about this girl is that she was in a shelter in Alabama for most of her life, kept in a kennel that was too small for 23+ hours per day – she even has a scar on her hip to show for it. When Sasha came to Minnesota at the beginning of the year she showed signs of being under socialized. With training, she has come a long way and I no longer consider this to be the case. She is great with people, but can be a bit awkward with other dogs. I remain amazed that she is such a solid, non-neurotic, well-adjusted dog.  Training her has been very rewarding, and a pleasure because she’s such a quick study.
